We take children from the age of two until they go to school. We seek to offer them a safe environment away from their parents in which they can play, learn and interact with other children and adults. We operate a key person system. Each child when starting is assigned a key person and this member of staff will help them to settle into pre-school. As part of the Early Years Foundation program, key workers complete regular observations and assessments which help with planning and supporting individual children’s learning needs.
This information is collected in an “All About Me” file that’s shared between the setting and
parent/carers, to add information and pictures.
At Markington pre-school we aim to provide a warm, caring, environment where children are encouraged to approach learning with confidence, enjoyment and enthusiasm.
A Typical Day
The pre-school is open from 9am-12pm, five mornings a week, during term times and is able to cater for up to 24 children at any one time, from the age of two years. We also provide a lunch club till 1pm each morning. The village hall is a warm, bright environment for children to play in and outside we have a well resourced, purpose built under fives area. We also have a safe, secure garden area and enclosed tennis court for the children to play in.
There are six members of staff who work part time at the pre-school. All staff are at least level 3 trained, all hold first aid and basic child protection qualifications. Staff attend regular courses to update and develop their skills and knowledge.
We have an excellent staff team who bring with them a wide range of experiences and skills including French, music and phonics. We ensure to maintain a good staff:child ratio each morning.
